Three Gifts of Recovery
What are three gifts of recovery?
It can be difficult to imagine the gifts of recovery during a time of active using. When a person is using their focus is generally on a lot of the negative thoughts and behaviors. For example low self-esteem, inability to hold a job or relationship and financial struggles.
That’s why we’ve outlined four gifts recovery can bring and in turn possibly bring someone the hope and courage to seek treatment.
Community
One of the first gifts of recovery is community. In early recovery a lot of people need encouragement and help. A support system whether it be a regular recovery meeting, group therapy or new activities opens the door to a healthy community. When you’re a part of a healthy community you make new friends and begin to open the doors to a brighter future.
Gratitude
After a person begins to come out of the cloud of substance use they have an unmatched sense of gratitude in their new life. There are so many things to be grateful for. For instance, the love and respect of family and the ability to see life clearly are incredibly gratifying.
Yourself
After the substances are out of a person’s system it’s a huge opportunity to be able to get to know their self. It’s a chance fall in love with who they are learn what and who they actually do like or don’t without the influence of drugs or alcohol. The strength a person gains by going through recovery is remarkable and should be celebrated.
