4 Father’s Day Appreciation Ideas
Father’s Day may seem to be in the shadow of Mother’s Day, but it’s significance can mean just as much to this parent as it does to the other. If you are feeling a little unsure about what meaningful gift you can get, consider these options.
Give the gift of charity.
Do you have a father that frequently attests that he doesn’t want a gift for Father’s Day, then consider finding a cause that might be close to his heart that you can offer a financial contribution to. The International Rescue Committee has a donation option to pay for a year of school to someone in need. You can also dedicate a donation to your father to Operation Underground, an organization that works to rescue children who have been victims of sex trafficking. Even if you aren’t sure he’d love to feel like he was a part of an important program, think of something that he might feel grateful to affiliate himself with and offer a contribution.
Give the gift of an experience.
Presents are nice but experiences provide great memories. Perhaps it can be a date with your dad that you will exclusively pay for, or a ticket to a concert or comedy show he loves. Is he going on a cruise soon? Look up excursions on the cruise that he might think would be fun and pay for that. Whatever you decide, do some research first and ponder the types of shows, music, or other things he enjoys doing and apply it to that. Maybe he would enjoy one of those home cooking boxes from Blue Apron or a snack box from Graze. Offer to experience this with him if you think he’d be interested but slightly apprehensive.
Timeless gifts.
Watches, ties, and t-shirts go out of style and you might end up with something he doesn’t like. So if you’re in a gift-pickle, consider to pay or a family portrait for when your family will be together the next time around. Too much money? Print a larger picture of your own family and go to a local craft store to frame it (many stores offer major discounts if you check online). Think about his favorite book from childhood or frame his favorite recipe from his mother.
Service gifts.
Does you father value a clean car? Many carwashes offer monthly rates in which you can get your car washed and vacuumed unlimited times. Some auto body shops offer memberships as well. I know my grandfather loves services like OnStar and AAA, and is very grateful when we pay for an upgrade or for the next year of services. If your dad isn’t the most sentimental or just seems to enjoy practicality, consider something like this for this year’s Father’s Day.
