Lifeline Connections receives $20,000 for Childcare Center in Residential Treatment Facility for Pregnant & Parenting Women and Their Children

(Vancouver, WA) – Lifeline Connections has been awarded funding, by the Community Foundation of Southwest Washington Waldon M. Groves Fund, toward startup costs for a the therapeutic childcare center that will be an integral part of a new Pregnant and Parenting Women’s substance use treatment program scheduled to open in the first quarter of 2018.

The facility, formerly occupied by Daybreak and owned by Janus Youth Services, will house up to 16 women and 18 children under the age of 5 for up to six months.  While in residence, moms will receive intensive substance use treatment that includes individual and group therapy along with building positive parenting skills.  Part of the women’s work will include lining up resources for when they complete the program.  Childcare will be provided while moms are in sessions.  Children will receive play sessions focused on coping skills and have the opportunity play in a brand new playground.

The 6 month extended stay provides opportunity to moms and kids to practice the skills they are learning.  They will have time to make mistakes and learn from those mistakes.  Part of the program includes providing opportunity to mom’s to have fun with their kids including outings to the zoo or park along with other family friendly venues.  Outings are designed to provide pro social experiences that can serve as a building block for the relationships as the family unit moves into a life of recovery.

Thank you to the Community Foundations of Southwest Washington and the family members of the Waldon M. Groves Fund for their contribution and more importantly, belief and support of children and families who are working to overcome the disease of addiction.
